Buenos Aires, often referred to as the “Paris of the South”, is vibrant, intriguing and a city unlike any other. Combining European style with South American flair, expect to be surprised by its colorful neighbourhoods, renowned architecture, delicious varied cuisine, raucous, very late nightlife and rich historical sites. “Must-sees” include the Recoleta with its large parks with 200 year old trees and ornate mausoleums at the famous Cemetery, where Evita and other famous Argentines are laid to rest.  The Teatro Colón is considered to be one of the best opera houses of the world. The colourful La Boca neighbourhood in Buenos Aires is a football(soccer) mecca, and a must-see for curious visitors to the city. Puerto Madero as the newest Buenos Aires neighbourhood has become a separate city in itself and at least one evening must be spent walking and dining on the streets of Palermo. And of course, a stay in Buenos Aires must include the tantalizing tango experience!

Carmelo

Idyllically located in the heart of one of Uruguay’s best wine regions, Carmelo is a laidback town which serves as a popular tourist resort and boating centre. The city rests on the banks of a wide section of the Uruguay River (or the Río de la Plata, as it’s called from this point downstream) and features some wonderful golden riverfront beaches. The town’s charming cobbled streets are a delight to explore with a number of colonial-style homes, interesting museums, open-air restaurants and excellent wineries to discover. Don’t miss the Plaza Independencia, which is centred around a large tree and features a lovely fountain and a set of white statues depicting a number of Greek mythological figures. Other highlights include the Rambla de los Constituyentes, a central promenade leading to a pretty marina dotted with yachts and river boats.

Don’t miss out on the striking geological folds of the Cafayate Amphitheatre or hiking the six-kilometre trail that follows the Colorado River. Wine-loving visitors will be rewarded with lip smacking Torrontes wine, an Argentinean white varietal that can be found in many of the cool bodegas (cellars) around town, while those arriving by road from Salta will enjoy the spectacular views along the scenic National Route 68.

The main reason visitors frequent this spectacular valley is to soak up the surrounding natural beauty and to sample an array of delicious wines in the foothills of the Andes.  Popular varieties produced in Uco Valley include: Semillon, Malbec, Bonarda, Barbera as well as Merlot and Pinot Noir. Visitors can spend leisurely days with a glass of wine in hand, soaking up the incredibly breathtaking views.

Las Condes

Las Condes is found within the greater Santiago Metropolitan Region in central Chile. Nicknamed ‘Sanhattan’ (along with neighbouring district Vitacura), Las Condes is an affluent area home to some good cultural sights in addition to some of the continent’s largest skyscrapers. Check out Santiago’s glitzy CBD around Boulevard Nueva Las Condes, before visiting the Museum of Chilenidad (found in the beautiful patronage house of Santa Rosa de Apoquindo) and the Cultural Centre of the Counts, which features rotating temporary exhibitions. Take a walk through flower-filled Araucano Park to recharge your batteries, and then shop for exquisite handicrafts at Pueblito Los Dominicos, before visiting the Cerro Calan Observatory to learn more about its impressive collection of telescopes. Finally, note that – with more than 500 restaurants to choose from – Las Condes is a gourmand’s delight.
