Anyone who is looking for a more
Umbria is ideal for well-traveled couples, honeymooners, and clients seeking a quieter, more authentic alternative to Tuscany. It also works beautifully for small groups or multi-generational families who value space, privacy, and experiential travel. The region particularly appeals to clients interested in culinary traditions, religious history, and artisan craftsmanship, offering a deeper, more immersive connection to Italy.
Not-to-be-Missed Experience or Activity
The truffle hunting experience near Trevi stands out as a defining moment — not just for the thrill of the hunt with trained Lagotto dogs, but for the full-circle experience that follows, culminating in a rustic, truffle-forward meal that reflects the land itself. Equally impactful was the private aperitif atop Torre degli Sciri in Perugia, offering rare, panoramic views over the historic city and a sense of exclusivity that is difficult to replicate.
Favorite culinary aspect of the hotel or region
Umbria’s cuisine is deeply rooted in tradition and locality, with a strong emphasis on seasonal ingredients and heritage products. Highlights included tasting Sagrantino in Montefalco paired with porchetta and aged pecorino, as well as a Michelin-level lunch at Il Falconiere that balanced refinement with regional identity. The truffle-focused meal following the hunt and the olive oil tasting in Spello, where guests learn to evaluate oil like a sommelier, provided a deeper understanding of the region’s culinary DNA.
Favorite Wellness aspect of the hotel or region
Borgobrufa is a fantastic wellness option with a very European-style spa (a favorite of locals), making it ideal for a longer, spa-focused stay. The facilities are extensive, with a beautiful sauna overlooking the rolling Umbrian hills — and the in-room hot tubs were such a fun, relaxed touch.
The real standout is the brand new spa at Borgo dei Conti — it’s truly next level. The spa pool is fully immersed in nature, with birdsong and complete stillness creating an incredibly serene atmosphere. It’s one of those spaces you don’t want to leave, and I have no doubt it will be topping lists (and booking out) very soon.
Favorite amenity
At Borgo dei Conti, the expansive private estate and sense of seclusion stood out, allowing guests to feel fully immersed in the countryside while still enjoying refined service and elevated dining.
Easy access to the spa at Borgobrufa meant everyone was these super comfy robes- even at breakfast- it truly felt like a vacation.
At La Rosetta, the central location within Perugia’s pedestrian core provides immediate access to the city’s cultural and historical landmarks, making it an ideal base for exploration.
Kudos to: refers to a guide, chef, member of hotel team, etc. that went out of their way
A special thank you to our guide Marco, whose passion for Perugia was truly infectious — we so enjoyed spending several days with him, and his energy, warmth, and deep local knowledge added so much to the experience.
Also, our guide Giovanni, who shared the hidden gems of Cortona and brought its Etruscan and Renaissance history to life with depth and enthusiasm.
And to Marilena, owner of Italy with Class, for personally escorting us throughout the journey — her attention to detail and pride in showcasing the region was evident at every step.
Additional Remarks
This itinerary, curated by Italy with Class, goes beyond traditional touring by focusing on sensory and experiential immersion. From artisan workshops in Bevagna to chocolate-making in Perugia and olive oil tastings in Spello, each experience connects travelers to the region’s heritage in a tangible way. The pacing allows for both structured exploration and moments of pause, which is essential in a destination that rewards slower travel.
