Accommodations and/or DMC/On Site

HX Expeditions - MS Fridtjof Nansen

*Arctic Superior XT Category - Outside Cabin w/Balcony

How to get to

We flew Delta Airline from JFK (New York) to EZE (Buenos Aires). From there, HX Expeditions hosted a charter flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia (aka The End of the World) to board the ship.

Recommended For (families, couples, corporate, celebrations, etc)

Perfect for adults or well-travelled mature children, interested in wildlife, serenity, and untouched landscapes.

Not-to-be-Missed Experience or Activity

Weather dictates everything in Antarctica. If you're lucky, and we were, you'll have a chance to ocean kayak alongside whales, seals, and thousands of penguins. Truly a memorable experience.

Other experiences include camping, hiking, zodiac tours, and landings, which happen every day - all weather permitting.

Also, the MS Fridtjof Nansen is hybrid powered, so standing on any of the outdoor decks and viewing areas offer complete silence while surrounded by majestic polar landscapes untouched by human hands.

Favorite culinary aspect of the hotel or region

The ship itself offered good food and a decent variety in the two main eateries, Restaurant Aune and Restaurant Fredheim Fine dining in Restaurant Lindstrøm is included for suite guests. Non-suite guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in Lindstrøm for an additional cost.

When in Ushuaia, find your way to Parrilla La Estancia for some of the best traditional Argentinian grilled meats and don't miss the melted provolone appetizer. WOW!!

Favorite Wellness aspect of the hotel or region

The Spa aboard the Nansen was outstanding. Both John and I enjoyed a deep cleansing facials one day and intense full-body massages another time. The staff was more than qualified and if you're truly fortunate, Rosita in particular was one of the top massage therapists I've ever experienced.

Favorite amenity

We loved the expedition jacket. It was more like a waterproof shell that can be added as a layer, making it far more versatile that other heavy expedition coats.

Kudos to: refers to a guide, chef, member of hotel team, etc. that went out of their way

I mentioned Rosita in the Wellness Center - excellent!! I've also got to shout out Gaby and Mats on the Expedition Team. While the entire team was fantastic, these two stood out as both leaders and guides.

Additional Remarks

When in Rome...

You have GOT TO DO THE POLAR PLUNGE!!! It's cold, but you'll never forget it (and probably will never do it again - haha)

Please list the Virtuoso amenities and any other special touches they add for our clients

Post voyage, HX Expeditions sends all passengers a slide show of photographs taken by a professional photographer from your sailing. In addition, there's information about your itinerary, landings, weather conditions, etc.
