TL Advisor Just Back From: Stephanie Williamson, Turks & Caicos

Turks & Caicos: Earlier this year, I was fortunate enough to experience the clear turquoise waters and laid-back atmosphere of Providenciales, or Provo as the locals call it, in Turks and Caicos. I'm of the opinion that you can never spend too much time on this gorgeous island. The stunning vistas, intricate mangrove systems, and rich cultural history make this chain of islands worth visiting over and over again. I'm already anticipating my next visit, with the promise to myself to bring home a potcake this time around.

Insider tidbit: Potcakes are what locals call the stray dogs that inhabit Providenciales. The moniker comes from the leftover slightly burnt rice, stuck to the bottom of cooking pots. These leftovers are often given to the strays as food. In an effort to save these friendly dogs, local shelters have programs where tourists can walk the dog(s) of their choice for a couple hours in the morning, with the option to adopt them and bring them home! The shelters have the logistics figured out for you and make it as easy as possible. I can't wait to participate and adopt my very own potcake!
